Confined Space Seminar – MSH Professional Development Seminar

Mount Saint Helens (MSH) Section of the Columbia/Willamette Chapter (CWC) of ASSP will be holding a Confined Space Seminar (click for flyer and registration form)

INSTRUCTOR:

 Mary C. DeVany, MS, CSP, CHMM, is a past chair of the Mt. St. Helens Section of the ASSP, former Safety Professional of the Year for the Columbia-Willamette Chapter, and past Regional Safety Professional of the Year.  According to the ASSP, she founded the first woman-owned safety, health and environmental consulting company in the United States.  She has been elected Fellow by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Managers and Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. Mary is a member and Past Chair of the AIHA national Confined Spaces Committee and wrote AIHA’s national position paper on the federal Confined Space Standard, 29 CFR 1910.146.  She served on both Oregon’s and Washington’s committees to write their new Confined Space Entry standards and has assisted numerous organizations with safe confined space entry procedures – in private sector general industry and construction – as well as the public sector, including Federal OSHA and the Federal Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. She has testified before Congress in Washington D.C., and she has served as an expert witness in confined space entry cases throughout the United States; for both the plaintiff and the defendants; in mediation, arbitration, and the courts systems; in federal as well as state courts; and in civil as well as criminal courts. Ms. DeVany has personally evaluated thousands of confined spaces all over the world.  She prepares written programs and permits, helps specify equipment, and conducts training for facility/plant operating and maintenance personnel, supervisors, rescue and firefighting personnel, safety and industrial hygiene professionals, physicians, and state and federal compliance officers.

November 13, DAY 1 (8:00-5:30):

This is an 8.5-hour course for
  • Confined Space Entry Workers & Entry Attendants.    
  • the first half of the 2-day training for
    • Entry Supervisors
    • Competent Persons, and
    • Qualified Persons.   
  • the first of 3 days for Emergency Rescuers.
Breaks 1-hour for lunch, and three 10-minute breaks throughout the day.  
Note: This day simply cannot be shorter.
To be certified, each attendee must pass the written test at the end of the day and attend the class all day.

November 14, DAY 2 (8:00-5:00):

This is an 8-hour day that will complete the certification training for
  • Entry Supervisors
  • Competent Persons and
  • Qualified Persons
  • will be the 2nd of 3 days for EMERGENCY RESCUERS.

Breaks: 1-hour lunch and three 10-minute breaks throughout the day.

To be certified, each attendee must pass the written test at the end of the day and attend the class all day. 

November 15, DAY 3 (8:00-4:30): 

This is a 7.5-hour day of additional training, scenarios, practice rescues, legal considerations, and other specific content to be a certified Confined Space Rescuer.
Breaks: 1-hour lunch and three 10-minute breaks throughout the day.
To accommodate the greater need of Entry Workers and Attendants Day #1 will be held twice, on Tuesday, November 13th and then again on Wednesday, November 14th.   Day #2 will be held on Thursday, November 15th, and Day #3 on Friday, November 16th, 2018.

  •  ASSP Member Price: $100/member/day ($300 Total for all 3 Days)
  •  ASSP Non-Member: $150/non-member/day ($450 Total for all 3 Days)
  •  Group Rate:  4 or more ASSP Non-Members from same Employer: $125/non-member/day

     Documents required for reimbursement (Dated within the window of 30 days prior to the start of the   first class or 30 days after the start of the first class): Copy of a properly filled-out ASSP Membership   Application, and A copy of a verifiable receipt of ASSP membership payment; In place of these two documents is verification of “New Member” status from ASSP Society

Certificates and wallet cards will be issued to each attendee.

Registration Instructions:  Please complete a registration form and submit a check, purchase order or credit card information for processing to brian.loos@ci.longview.wa.us or section PO Box.  Receipt will be generated confirming attendance and payment.  An invoice can be sent upon request. If you are not a member of ASSP, you are still welcome to attend!  We ask that you do consider joining our section.  If you choose to join, your registration fee for this event will be discounted to the member rate (potential $150 savings for 3 days of training) once your membership into the section has been confirmed.
