MT ST HELENS SECTION MEETING

Our next monthly meeting is on Thursday, August 15th, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Kelso-Longview Elks Lodge, 900 Ash St, Kelso, WA  Breakfast is available beginning at 7 a.m. for $12 per person.

Our speaker this month is our Treasurer, Rob Dahl, a retired Firefighter/EMT,  joined by members of Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, to talk about the rising opioid crisis and managing drug overdose in the workplace.

Workplace overdose deaths from nonmedical use of drugs or alcohol have increased 619% since 2011. Overdose deaths totaled 525 in 2022, equivalent to nearly 9.6% of all occupational injury deaths in 2022. Increases have been experienced among all employee demographics, industries, and occupations.  It is critical that employers embrace this trend and provide the necessary training and tools to help combat it, as well as being prepared to respond to an overdose event in the workplace.  Rob and his team will provide critical data on this growing issue and also share training tools and equipment that is necessary for all workplaces in todays environment.
