Why We’re Holding a Special Election
The Columbia Willamette Chapter (CWC) of the American Society of Safety Professionals is holding a special election to fill an open President‑Elect position.
Due to a vacancy, we are seeking a member willing to step into the President‑Elect role and continue through the remainder of the President’s Track—a four‑year leadership commitment with varying levels of responsibility across each year.
- President‑Elect (June 2026 – May 2027)
- President (June 2027 – May 2028)
- 1st Past President (June 2028 – May 2029)
- 2nd Past President (June 2029 – May 2030)
President’s Track Overview (4 Years Remaining)
The President’s Track is designed to provide continuity, mentoring, and shared leadership. While it spans multiple years, the level of responsibility shifts year‑to‑year, with the heaviest lift during the President year.
Year 1: President‑Elect (Role to Be Filled)
- Shadow the President and prepare for the President role
- Coordinate two Professional Development Conferences (fall & spring)
- Record monthly membership meetings (TBD)
- Help organize officer installation & transition events as transitioning into President
- Attend monthly Executive Board and membership meetings
This year is focused on learning, collaboration, and support.
Year 2: President
- Provide overall leadership for the chapter
- Lead Executive Board meetings
- Support officers and committee chairs
- Ensure required ASSP reporting is completed
Years 3 & 4: Past President Roles (Lighter Commitments)
- 1st Past President: Lead nominations and elections
- 2nd Past President: Oversee bylaws updates
Past President years are intentionally lighter while maintaining continuity and mentorship.
Who Should Consider This Role?
Ideally, candidates would have:
- Prior involvement with the CWC Executive Team (elected) or a CWC committee (non-elected)
- OR leadership experience with another nonprofit, professional association, or volunteer organization
- Comfort working with a group, facilitating discussions, and helping teams move things forward
You do not need to have every qualification listed. Support, documentation, and mentoring are in place throughout the track.
