Topic: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED): The Basics

Interested in learning how you can reduce vulnerabilities to crime and unwanted activity on your property or targeted at your employees? Learn about how to assess the built and natural environment of a property and implement solutions, based on the concepts of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), so that you can increase opportunity and feelings of safety. Gain an understanding of the concept of placemaking and the positive effects it can have on property and community safety. This holistic approach to property and employee safety is both effective and easy.

Speaker: Sarah Berkemeier, Community Safety Coordinator

Throughout her 20-year career as a human services and training professional, Sarah has had the opportunity to work in many different health and safety capacities, providing safety education for a wide array of audiences. She has been working as a Community Safety Coordinator with the City of Portland, for five years, providing training and CPTED-based security assessments to help identify property and personal safety vulnerabilities, reduce risk, and increase feelings and knowledge of empowerment and security. Sarah has also been a volunteer personal safety and self-defense instructor classes for the City of Portland Strengths program for 16 years. Her background also includes providing advocacy for domestic violence survivors, counseling support for adolescents, social work with subsidized housing residents and prevention health education.

Donations to Chelsea’s Closet

The Columbia Willamette Chapter has selected the Chelsea Hicks Foundation to be the recipients of our October donations. This organization supports seriously ill children by providing costumes for monthly dress-up parties for kids in Doernbecher and Randall Children’s Hospitals.

We invite you to join us in supporting Chelsea’s Closet by bringing a NEW costume to our October 13th meeting. Visit our CWC News webpage at https://cwc.assp.org/news/ to learn more about which costumes are in greatest need. There is also a link to make a cash donation to the organization if desired.
